Christian Island

is a wonderful light summer song where Gordon Lightfoot tells about leasurely sailing with his boat 'Silver Heels' in the lee of Christian Island in the Georgian Bay:

I'm sailing down the summer wind
I got whiskers on my chin
And I like the mood I'm in
As I while away the time of day
In the lee of Christian Island ...

On a rainy day like today I wish I could be there, too ...

The image: Its muted greys and pale blues create a quiet, almost suspended atmosphere, while flashes of yellow, orange, and vivid blue break through the surface like reflections on water. The dark vertical forms suggest trees along a distant shoreline, their shapes distorted as though seen through rippling water.

There is a strong sense of distance, solitude, and remembrance. The view continually dissolves into abstraction, giving it the feeling of a place that exists somewhere between reality and recollection. Like Gordon Lightfoot’s song, the work carries a sense of peace and harmony.
