Lyle Lovett wrote and sang this very sad, bitter, hopeless song. A long time ago, in 1987.

River systems or lightning paths in glowing blue branch across scorched red land, carving a raw geometry through stark black and white emptiness. There’s rhythm in the branching, but also tension — like bloodlines or fault lines. Simple Song is anything but simple: it speaks to elemental forces, fragility, and permanence.

The high contrast with an almost brutal separation of white and red, interspersed with “nervous” blue lines, looks like a visualized energy or circulatory system. It hums with visual music, raw and unfiltered.
